Top award for perfect Goole Youth Action

May 22, 2025

Goole Youth Action (GYA) were the overall winners at this year’s Humberside Police Night Challenge.

At the awards ceremony, held on Friday, May 2, participants of the challenge were invited to celebrate their achievements alongside their friends and families, with the GYA team, Girls Aloud, winning with a 100 per cent score overall. The girls won a trip to Mount Cook Adventure Centre in the Peak District later in July. Hosted by Community Safety Unit, the evening saw teams who took part in the event on Saturday, March 1, come together to celebrate and commemorate all their hard work across the event.

This year, teams walked nearly 13 miles across Brantingham Dales whilst completing several thought-provoking challenges set out by our partners along the way. The aim is to build positive relationships between the police and young people within harder to reach groups across our communities. This year’s theme focused on discussions around healthy relationships, coercive control and violence against women and girls. Each team is marked on well how they worked together as a team, including their communication skills across the night and how well they tackled the tasks together based on feedback from the challenge providers. From this, everyone was rewarded with a certificate and voucher for their commitment to taking part, with the top three teams winning additional prizes.

After handing out the awards to the winners Chief Constable Chris Todd said: “It is fantastic to see so many young people here tonight and well done to all involved and for completing Night Challenge. “Seeing how the event has had a positive impact on everyone involved is amazing, and I hope that by you taking part it has sown the seeds of something that may lead you joining the police. “Everyone who has been involved has achieved something and it creates resilience, so if you ever think you can’t achieve, look back at Night Challenge and remember you are taking steps towards your future. “I encourage you all to take advantage of those who have supported you so that together we can take the steps needed to make positive changes.” Debbie Fletcher, youth worker at Goole Youth Action, who joined the girls on the challenge and the awards night, said: “The result and impact is massive for the girls. “The confidence, the self belief and even future pathways for some will change because of this.” If you are from an organisation that works with young people who you feel would benefit from being involved in Night Challenge 2026, please contact NightChallenge@humberside.police.uk.
