A commemorative calendar marking Goole’s 200th anniversary and featuring exclusive artwork by renowned local artist Harold Mason BEM is now on sale.
The calendar showcases twelve original pieces by Mr Mason, each capturing Goole’s rich heritage. The 93-year-old’s newest work highlights Goole’s waterfront, historic architecture and old town streets. From the historic coal hoists to the iconic Goole Docks, the calendar offers a visual journey through two centuries of the town’s evolution. The calendar was unveiled on July 10 at a special event hosted by Goole Library and Museum.
Mr Mason, whose work is celebrated for its evocative portrayal of Yorkshire’s landscapes and communities, said: “It’s been an honour to contribute to Goole’s bicentenary celebrations. This town has a remarkable story, and I’ve tried to reflect its spirit and resilience in every brushstroke. “I have enjoyed putting it together, I’ve always had an interest in Goole and the history of the town. “I get an immense joy out of painting. It has been an enjoyable task.” Goole 2026 Bicentenary Community Group brings together representatives from voluntary groups, community organisations, and residents to promote events, initiatives, and projects that celebrate 200 years of the town. Georgina Jane Petty, vice chairman of the Goole 2026 Bicentenary Community Group, said: "This calendar is more than just a collection of beautiful images; it’s a tribute to Goole’s enduring identity. The bicentenary is an opportunity to celebrate the people and progress that continue to shape Goole’s future. Harold’s work captures the essence of our town, and we’re thrilled to share it as part of our bicentenary celebrations."
Margaret Hicks-Clarke, chairman of Goole Civic Society, added: "This calendar is a wonderful example of how art and heritage can come together to tell Goole’s story. It’s a celebration of our past, present, and future. We hope it will inspire pride and curiosity in residents and visitors alike." Calendars are on sale at Goole Library, at Friends Of West Park’s Vintage in the Park event on Sunday July 20 and at Music in the Park on Sunday August 24.
