A woman from Rawcliffe is taking on a sponsored walk in aid of a local charity which offers work experience and social therapeutic horticulture for adults who live with the challenges of learning difficulties, Autism and physical disabilities.
Ruth Deighton will be walking a route of approximately 30,000 steps along the banks of the Dutch River and the Rivers Ouse and Aire, to raise money for Mires Beck Nursery. Based in North Cave, Mires Beck is a charity run horticultural nursery which was founded in 1994 to help service users improve their physical and social abilities through ‘green therapy’. Support worker Ruth, is taking on the 30,000 steps challenge as part of the charity’s ’30 for 30’ fundraising campaign to mark its 30th anniversary. The charity is aiming to raise £30,000 through a range of challenges throughout the year, to help continue funding its vital activities. Speaking about her challenge, Ruth said: “I wanted to do my bit to help raise money for the charity. I started walking 10,000 steps a day during the pandemic, so 30,000 steps will be abit of a challenge but it should be achievable. “I’m hoping to raise at least £100 but every bit helps.” Ruth will be taking on the challenge on Saturday, May 11 setting off from Rawcliffe Bridge and completing the route passing through Goole, Hook, Airmyn and Rawcliffe.
